Not by a stranger. By someone everyone trusts. A coach. A neighbor. A family friend. Someone who has been patient, charming, and careful, because predators do not act on impulse. They follow a process.
That process has six stages. And every single one of them is recognizable, if you know what to look for.
That is exactly what SPOT6 teaches.

Teresa Agustin

Born and raised in Sunnyvale during the orchard days of Silicon Valley, Teresa Agustin now calls San Francisco home. By day, she owns and operates a property management company focused on providing safe, affordable housing for low-income families, single mothers, and former foster youth. By heart, she is a passionate advocate, community builder, full-time mom, and the proud creator of SPOT6.
Many are surprised to learn Teresa was one of the early female radio and club DJs in the Bay Area during the 90s and 2000s. She is also a devoted sports fan, loyal to both the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Dodgers, and will proudly tell you she was probably a chef in a former life. Her favorite comfort foods include salt-and-pepper garlic Dungeness crab, Filipino lechon, and chocolate ice cream.
Teresa created SPOT6 from lived experience. Her mission has always been prevention-first, giving parents and communities the knowledge to recognize the warning signs of grooming before abuse ever occurs. In 2024 she partnered with the Jan Broberg Foundation, and in 2025 she was appointed Chairperson of the Board of Directors.
When she is not building programs or speaking at community events, you will find her listening to 80s music, going for a walk, serving her Church, or dreaming about a quiet forest cabin with a cozy fire and a good book. Friends describe her as generous, loyal, and resilient. Her mission is simple: SPOT a STAGE. SAVE a CHILD.

What Is SPOT6?
SPOT6 is JBF’s school-based prevention program. It equips students, educators, and families with the knowledge to recognize grooming behaviors, and gives them the language and permission to speak up. School presentations reach students, administrators, and teachers with education about grooming signs, prevention, reporting, and safety.
The name says exactly what the mission is: if we can SPOT a STAGE, we can SAVE a CHILD.
SPOT6 has been active in multiple school districts across the San Francisco Bay Area since early 2025. The response is clear: communities want this conversation, and they want it early.

The 6 Stages Every Adult Should Know
Most people believe they would recognize danger when they see it. But grooming does not look like danger. It looks like kindness. It looks like a helpful adult who is great with kids. It looks like someone your child adores.
Here is what SPOT6 teaches communities to recognize:

Target Selection
Predators do not act randomly. They observe children carefully, identify vulnerabilities, and select their targets with intention. By the time most people notice something is wrong, the predator has already been watching for a long time.

Gaining Trust
The predator’s first job is to win over the adults in a child’s life: parents, coaches, teachers, anyone who stands between them and the child. They work to appear helpful, trustworthy, and kind, because we naturally equate those qualities with safe. That is exactly what they are counting on.

Filling a Need
The predator positions themselves as the only one who truly understands the child. They offer connection, attention, and whatever the child needs most, until the child feels dependent on them. Every kindness is a tool. Every gesture is deliberate.

Isolation
Once trust is established, the predator begins separating the child from every safe person in their life. Special trips. Alone time. Closed doors. Convenient offers to drive or help out. They make the child feel more understood by the predator than by their own family. Watch for adults seeking unsupervised access to children.

Desensitization
The predator slowly erodes the child’s personal boundaries through comments, jokes, and contact that gradually escalates. The goal is to make harmful behavior feel normal before abuse begins. By the time a child realizes something is wrong, they have often been conditioned not to trust that instinct.

Silence and Control
Abusers use threats, guilt, and shame to keep victims silent. Children are made to feel responsible for what happened to them. Adults must be prepared to believe children when they disclose abuse. The CDC reports that 98% of children’s accounts are factual, even when a child later recants. Knowledge is what interrupts this stage before it takes hold.
SPOT6 gives your community a common language to name what they are seeing, before a child is harmed.
